special requests
In addition to taking care of basic arrangements, Wollongong City Funerals can help personalise the ceremony with some extra touches.
Display Items: Display your loved one’s favourite items. The avid golfer might have favourite golf clubs leaning against the coffin, while a child might have a favourite teddy bear sitting on the casket.
Special releases: Wollongong City Funerals can organise dove or balloon releases. The symbolic beauty of a white dove being released is a moving finale to a funeral ceremony. The dove can represent the spirit being released and a journey to a new life. The symbolism of a balloon release is much the same, only with a more colourful flair. For a small child who loved balloons, Wollongong City Funerals can arrange the release of a bright cloud of balloons after the service.
Other Special Features
Other special features that can make the service more meaningful for you include a lock of hair, single flowers for reflection, mourning stationery, memorial cards, petals for the graveside, a memorial candle, and photography personalised with name.
RSL Services: To honour those who served, Wollongong City Funerals can conduct or help with RSL Services. Special touches may include a flag draped over the coffin, the Last Post, poppies, medals on display and more.
Transportation: In addition to a traditional hearse, Wollongong City Funerals provides the option for families to have their loved one carried on a Harley Davidson motorcycle hearse-perfect for someone who loved being out on the open road on his or her bike.
Photo Presentation: An on-screen presentation created with your photos and viewed during a funeral service can reflect on your loved one’s life and act as a unique keepsake. Photos can also be taken during the service and added later.
Music and Recordings: Music plays a significant role in any funeral service. We can arrange to have music of your choice played in the chapel or at the graveside; either on our portable sound system or by a musician. Music can include organists, bagpipers, buglers, harp players, a violinist, an opera singer, a brass band, a vocalist or a string quartet.
RSL Services
If the deceased is a returned serviceman or woman, Wollongong City Funerals can assist with some special touches. These include The Ode, a flag placed over the coffin, the Last Post/Reveille, poppies, and a guard of honour. We can also liaise with the RSL to be in attendance.
